Retelling the Story

Posted on 11 April 2005 by David Phillips

I am reading through Deuteronomy as part of my devotional time and something that has struck me is this: Moses is constantly retelling the history of the Jews. He tells about how they went into Egypt. How they were treated as slaves. He reminds the people of the plagues. He reminds them of how God brought their release and how he lead them and cared for them. he reminds them of their grumbling and complaining, how they refused to go into the promised land in Numbers 13, and of their wondering.

Church leaders should take Moses’ advice. Retelling the story of where we have been and what has happened and where we are going is crucial to leadership. Help people see the reality of the direction of the church. Help them see how the decisions that are made are important and critical to the kingdom growth that the church should be involved in. And you do that by every now and again, on a regular occasion, retelling the story. They’ll forget it if they aren’t reminded.
