The power of rest

I’ve taken the week off this week. It’s a much needed vacation. Since my wife was off as well from her teaching job, we decided that we will go to Williamsburg, Va leaving tomorrow. I’ve finished drywalling and painting a room in my basement which will become my office. It’s amazing how differently drywall joints look with paint on them. I swear I sanded those down well!

Anyway, to the point. I’ve not had to think about church, leadership, sermons, visiting, problems, etc all week. And yet it’s been a week where I’ve thought about it very much. It appears to me that when we get away and get our mind away from the feeling we have to think and do and sermonize, etc. our mind is free to think outside the box about those very issues. It offers us perspective and we can see the forest and the trees instead of just the trees.

The Advice: Take all your vacation time!

More advice: make sure you take your days off during the week. I am thankful that I have a leadership team that every other week or so, ask me if I’m taking my days off! They hold me accountable to my weekly time off. It’s very refreshing and helpful!
