I was nominated late last year to be a part of the General Mission Board of Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware. I agreed to take the position so that I could make an investment in the life of our state convention, though I inherently HATE business meetings. One thing I love about our church is we don’t do business meetings.

Nonetheless, I agreed to be on the board, which is equivalent to a trustee board, and today was my first meeting (we meet 3 times a year). I was amazed. Everything was oriented around the kingdom and mission partnerships. Even the Executive Director’s presentation was interesting! We’re re-organizing some things around a more intentional missional structure.

Our church multiplication leader’s presentation was simply a video of baptismal testimonies. He ended it by saying something to the effect of…”Isn’t this the real issue…it’s about the life-changing message of Christ!” A testimony from a couple who attended a pastor & family retreat telling how the retreat was a great healing and encouraging experience, providing a renewal to share Christ.

We voted on 3 things. And they were all tweaks to the system to help the convention be more streamlined and effective for the kingdom…for fulfilling Acts 1:8.

Not a negative word was said. It was a great experience! I’m sure not every meeting will be this way, but quite honestly, we don’t do politics up here. We do kingdom work and it shows in how we do our business.
